أعلن الرئيس السوري الانتقالي أحمد الشرع فجر الخميس أنّه قرّر تكليف فصائل محليّة ورجال دين دروز "مسؤولية حفظ الأمن في السويداء"، المحافظة الواقعة في جنوب البلاد والتي شهدت منذ الأحد أعمال عنف طائفية أوقعت مئات القتلى.

وقال الشرع في خطاب إلى الأمة "لقد قرّرنا تكليف بعض الفصائل المحلية ومشايخ العقل مسؤولية حفظ الأمن في السويداء"، متعهّدا "محاسبة من تجاوز وأساء لأهلنا الدروز" ومندّدا بلجوء إسرائيل "إلى استهداف موسّع للمنشآت المدنية والحكومية" كاد أن يغرق المنطقة بأسرها في "مصير مجهول (...) لولا التدخل الفعّال للوساطة الأميركية والعربية والتركية".
