أبلغ الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب رئيس الوزراء الكندي مارك كارني في رسالة الخميس أنّ الولايات المتّحدة ستفرض على كلّ وارداتها من جارتها الشمالية رسوما جمركية إضافية بنسبة 35% اعتبارا من الأول من آب/أغسطس.

ومنذ الإثنين أرسل ترامب أكثر من 20 رسالة مماثلة إلى شركاء تجاريين لبلاده يبلغهم فيها بنسبة الرسوم الجمركية الإضافية التي قرّر فرضها على صادراتها إلى الولايات المتحدة.

والخميس، نشر ترامب على منصته "تروث سوشل" نصّ رسالته إلى كارني وجاء فيها أنّه "بدلا من التعاون مع الولايات المتحدة، ردّت كندا بفرض تعرفات جمركية خاصة بها. اعتبارا من الأول من آب/أغسطس 2025، سنفرض على كندا تعرفة جمركية بنسبة 35% على المنتجات الكندية المرسلة إلى الولايات المتحدة، منفصلة عن كل التعرفات القطاعية".
