أعرب الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب خلال لقائه في البيت الأبيض مساء الإثنين رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتانياهو عن ثقته في أنّ حركة حماس تريد التوصّل إلى وقف لإطلاق النار في قطاع غزة.

وردّا على سؤال عمّا إذا كانت المعارك الدائرة في القطاع بين إسرائيل والحركة الفلسطينية ستؤدّي إلى تعطيل المحادثات الجارية بين الطرفين للتوصّل إلى هدنة، قال ترامب للصحافيين في البيت الأبيض "إنّهم (حماس) يريدون اللقاء ويريدون وقف إطلاق النار هذا".
