حذّر الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش الأحد من "دوامة لامتناهية من الردود الانتقامية" في أعقاب الضربات الأميركية على إيران والتي اعتبرها "منعطفا خطيرا" في المنطقة.

وقال غوتيريش خلال جلسة طارئة لمجلس الأمن الدولي "لقد أدنت مرارا أي تصعيد عسكري في الشرق الأوسط. لا يمكن لشعوب المنطقة أن تتحمل دورة أخرى من الدمار. ومع ذلك، فإننا نخاطر بالوقوع في دوامة لامتناهية من الردود الانتقامية".
