أشار وزير الخارجية البريطاني ديفيد لامي الخميس عقب إجرائه محادثات في البيت الأبيض مع نظيره الأميركي ماركو روبيو، إلى أن الوقت لا يزال متاحا للتوصل إلى حل دبلوماسي مع إيران بشأن برنامجها النووي لتفادي نزاع أوسع نطاقا.

وقال لامي في بيان صادر عن السفارة البريطانية في واشنطن بعد لقائه روبيو والمبعوث الأميركي الخاص ستيف ويتكوف "لا يزال الوضع في الشرق الأوسط محفوفا بالمخاطر. نحن مصممون على ألا تمتلك إيران سلاحا نوويا أبدا". وأضاف "بحثنا كيف يجب على إيران إبرام اتفاق لتجنب نزاع متفاقم. والآن توجد فرصة سانحة خلال الأسبوعين المقبلين للتوصل إلى حل دبلوماسي".
