اعترف الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون الجمعة بأن القيادي في جبهة التحرير الوطني التي قادت حرب التحرير في الجزائر العربي بن مهيدي "قتله عسكريون فرنسيون"، وذلك في مناسبة الذكرى السبعين لاندلاع ثورة التحرير الجزائرية.

وأعلن قصر الإليزيه في بيان أن رئيس الجمهورية "يعترف اليوم بأن العربي بن مهيدي، البطل الوطني للجزائر وأحد قادة جبهة التحرير الوطني الستة الذين أطلقوا ثورة الأول من تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1954، قتله عسكريون فرنسيون كانوا تحت قيادة الجنرال بول أوساريس".
