قال الممثل الأعلى للاتحاد الأوروبي للشئون الخارجية والسياسة الأمنية جوزيب بوريل إن ما يحدث في غزة من قبل الاحتلال الإسرائيلي يعد هجوما مروعا وليس دفاعا عن النفس، ويمثل انتهاكا جسيما لحقوق الإنسان.

وفي مؤتمر صحفي في معبر رفح، أكد بوريل أنه يمكن للاتحاد الأوروبي ممارسة الضغوط السياسية والدبلوماسية على إسرائيل للمطالبة بوقف إطلاق النار في غزة، مشيرا إلى أنه يدعم جهود الوساطة التي تبذلها الولايات المتحدة وقطر ومصر.

وأكد بوريل أن الاتحاد الأوروبي يواصل دعم الفلسطينيين، وقال إن الحل لا يكمن في "إطعام الشعب لليلة واحدة ليموت في الليلة المقبلة"، داعيا إلى ضرورة إدخال المساعدات الإنسانية للقطاع.
