توفي الرئيس المصري الاسلامي السابق محمد مرسي بعد ظهر الاثنين بعد أن فقد وعيه أثناء حضوره جلسة محاكمة في احدى القضايا المتهم فيها، بحسب مصدرين قضائي وأمني.
وقال المصدران إن "مرسي تحدث أمام المحكمة لمدة 20 دقيقة وانفعل ثم أغشي عليه ونقل الى المستشفى حيث توفي" عن عمر يناهز 68 عاما.
وكان مرسي يحضر جلسة اعادة محاكمته مع 23 اخرين في قضية "التخابر مع قوى اجنبية" بينها حماس وقطر.
وقد صدر بحقه حكم بالسجن المؤبد في المحاكمة الاولى في حزيران/يونيو 2015 الا أن محكمة النقض ألغت الحكم وأمرت باعادة المحاكمة.
وفي أول رد فعل على وفاته، وصف الرئيس التركي رجب طيب أردوغان مرسي ب"الشهيد".
ويعد مرسي، الذي تولى الرئاسة في العام 2012 بعد أكثر من عام من الثورة التي أطاحت سلفه حسني مبارك، اول رئيس انتخب ديموقراطيا في مصر.
وأطاح الجيش في الثالث من تموز/يوليو 2013 مرسي عقب تظاهرات ضخمة طالبت برحيله واحتجزه ثم أحاله الى المحاكمة في قضايا عدة.
وألغت محكمة النقض في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2016 حكما باعدامه في قضية "الهروب من السجن" وقررت اعادة محاكمته.
وأطلقت عملية الإطاحة بمرسي المنتمي لجماعة الإخوان المسلمين حملة قمع واسعة قتل فيها مئات من أنصاره ومثلت ضربة موجعة للجماعة.
